10.3. Morphological Coding Schemes
10.3.1. An Overview of Morphological Coding Schemes
BibleWorks 5.0 contains a number of morphological database versions for the Hebrew OT
and Greek NT and the LXX. These may be summarized as follows:
o WTM - This contains the Groves-Wheeler Westminster BHS Morphological Database.
o GNM - This contains the Friberg GNT Morphology Database
o BNM - This contains the BibleWorks GNT Morphology Database
o BLM - This contains the BibleWorks LXX Morphology Database
o BGM - This contains the BNM and BLM in a single version.
o SCM - This contains the Morphology for Scrivener's GNT
o BYM - This contains the Morphology for the Robinson-Pierpont GNT
o STM - This contains the Morphology for the Stephanos GNT
These morphological databases are just Bible versions in which each word has been replaced
by a construction that contains the root word and parsing information for the word. You
search these databases just like you search any other versions, but the words you look up are
constructs made up of a root word and some appended codes that specify the morphology
(parsing information). The form of the constructs is <root[zavinac]codes> for Greek and Hebrew
words and <root%codes> for Aramaic words. To use these databases you need to know how
to construct the codes. Both the Command Line and Advanced Search Engine have
"Assistant" programs that help you construct simple codes, but you will be able to do a lot
more with these databases if you study the coding schemes in detail. This section describes
the coding schemes used in the eight morphological databases described above.
BibleWorks 5 has four different morphological coding schemes:
o The Friberg Greek Scheme - This is used in the Friberg Analytical Greek New
Testament database (GNM). (Další podrobnosti zde).
o The BibleWorks Greek Scheme - This is used in the new BibleWorks Greek
New Testament (BNM) Morphology, the new BibleWorks LXX Morphology (BLM)
and in the combined GNT/LXX morphology version (BGM).
o The Modified BibleWorks Greek Scheme - This is used in the Robinson-
Pierpont Greek Morphology databases (BYM), as well as in the Stephanos Text
(STM) and Scrivener's Text (SCM) Morphology databases. It is almost identical to
the BibleWorks scheme, but has a few differences due to the differences in the way
these versions were tagged.
o The BibleWorks Hebrew Morphological Scheme - This is used in the
Groves-Wheeler Westminster Morphological Database.
