1. BHS [or WTT] - Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia BHS (Hebrew Bible, Masoretic Text or Hebrew Old Testament), edited by K. Elliger and W. Rudoph of the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft, Stuttgart, Fourth Corrected Edition, Copyright [zavinac] 1966, 1977, 1983, 1990 by the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft (German Bible Society), Stuttgart. Westminster Theological Seminary Hebrew Morphology database. The latest revision (on behalf of the Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft by Westminster Theological Seminary, July 1987, with morphology update in June 1994) corrected the text according to the then latest available facsimiles of Codex Leningradensis. [For suspected problems with the printed text of BHS (1983 edition), comparison was made to the two other published versions of the Codex Leningradensis: -- The Holy Scriptures edited by Aron Dotan (Adi, Tel Aviv, 1974) and BHK (Kittel Third edition). At all points of variance between Dotan and BHS or BHS and BHK, also examined were the photo facsimiles of the codex (Codex Leningradensis b 19A, D.S. Loewinger, Makor, Jerusalem, 1971.)] This latest electronic version, now included in BibleWorks, is extremely close to BHS, 4th Edition. With Version 5.0 of BibleWorks, the entire BHS4 now has full and complete Hebrew accents (that is, the taamim (or te amim) is equivalent to cantillation marks and these include the accent marks, indicating how the masoretes divided the word flow into sentences, word groups etcetera.)

2. WTM, JDP - Groves-Wheeler Westminster Morphology and Lemma Database (WTM), Copyright (c) 19911992 (Release 1), 1994 (Release 2), 1996-2000 (Release 3), and 2001 (release 3.5) by the Westminster Theological Seminary, and used by arrangement with Westminster Theological Seminary, Chestnut Hill (Philadelphia), Pennsylvania. Also known as Westminster Electronic Morphology of BHS or Westminster edition of the machine-readable morphologically tagged text of BHS or Grammatically-Tagged Hebrew Scriptures. BibleWorks includes the 2001 WTM Release 3.5. This Westminster Hebrew Old Testament Morphology has been supplemented with accent tags. Two separate tagging systems are included, one based on the CCAT database and one based on the work of Dr. J. D. Price.

5. HEBDIC/HEBDICFR/HEBDICRU - Hebrew-Aramaic and English Lexicon of the Old Testament (Abridged BDB-Gesenius Lexicon), by Francis Brown, D.D., D.Litt., S. R. Driver, D.D., D.Litt., and Charles A. Briggs, D.D., D. Litt., finished in 1906 and based upon Wilhelm Gesenius Lexicon Manuale Hebraicum et Chaldaicum in V. T. Libros, 1833 as translated into English from Latin and expanded by Edward Robinson, 1833-1854; and based upon Gesenius Thesaurus philologicus Criticus Linguae Hebraeae et Chaldaeae Veteris Testamenti as completed by E. Roediger, 1858; and based upon the latest German editions (about 1895) of Gesenius Neues Hebraeisch-Deutsches Handwoerterbuch. LXT - LXX Septuaginta (LXT) (Old Greek Jewish Scriptures) edited by Alfred Rahlfs, Copyright © 1935 by the Wurttembergische Bibelanstalt / Deutsche Bibelgesellschaft (German Bible Society), Stuttgart. Used by permission. The LXX MRT (machine readable text) was prepared by the TLG (Thesaurus Linguae Graecae) Project directed by Theodore F. Briinner at University of California, Irvine. Further verification and adaptation towards conformity with the individual Goettingen editions that have appeared since 1935 (9th Edition reprint in 1971) is in process by the CATSS Project, University of Pennsylvania. The various LXX OT Apocryphal/Deutero-Canonical books are included. Now included are the substantial text variations and multiple text types (assuming Codex Vaticanus as standard) from the Theodotian revision, Codex Alexandrinus, and Codex Sinaiticus. But not yet included are the textual variants as encoded from the apparatuses of the best available editions (especially Goettingen, Cambridge), and reformatted for computer by the Philadelphia team of the in-process CATSS Project under the direction of R. Kraft.

7. LXX-BHS Alignments: starting with Version 3.0 BibleWorks, included is Advanced Synchronization of Versification Mappings (alignment of content) between the LXX, BHS, and English (RSV and KJV) translations. The basis for this is (A) the Parallel Hebrew-Aramaic and Greek texts of Jewish Scripture, based

on the Michigan-Claremont-Westminster BHS consonantal text and the TLG LXX, created by the CATSS Project under the direction of Emanuel Tov (Jerusalem team); (B) recognized scholars' research results as published in various exegetical commentaries and in other publications. BibleWorks allows the user to modify the alignment if further research indicates a need for such. BibleWorks aligns and allows for user-modifiable alignments between any and all Bible text databases.

8. LXX/OG Greek Morphology and Lemma Database (LXM), 1991 (2nd) Edition, by the Computer Assisted Tools for Septuagint Studies (CATSS) project at the University of Pennsylvania. The morphologically analyzed text of Greek Jewish Scriptures (LXX/OG) was prepared under the direction of Robert Kraft (CATSS, Philadelphia team). An automatic morphological analysis program for use on classical texts was created by David Packard around 1977. In the early 1980s, this program was installed at the University of Pennsylvania where it was adapted and run on the LXX/OG materials. For several years thereafter, CATSS staff members verified and corrected the results, which were first released in 1987 and further revised for an updated release in 1991 (LXM-2). In order to facilitate LXX and GNT comparative studies LXM-2 has been extensively adapted and improved for use in the 1999 Edition of BibleWorks (see below on BLM).

9. BLM - BibleWorks LXX/OG Morphology and Lemma Database (BLM), 1999-2001 Edition. The BLM revises and improves the LXM found in prior BibleWorks' versions (LXM-2). The BLM morphology database is an extensive, thorough adaptation and correction of the 1991 LXX/OG Morphology and Lemma Database (LXM

2) from the CATSS project at the University of Pennsylvania (see citation immediately above). The BLM corrections and improvements to the CATSS data (LXM-2) will be incorporated into the next edition of the latter resource, while the BibleWorks adaptation (BLM) will also continue to be improved with further input from CATSS. The main differences between the anticipated BLM-2 and LXM-3 will relate primarily to format, not to basic content. The current BLM is the result of a collaborative effort between Michael Bushell (BibleWorks, LLC) and two scholars, Jean-Noel Aletti, SJ, Professor of New Testament Exegesis at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and Andrzej Gieniusz, CR, Doctor in Sacra Scriptura. These two scholars contributed unselfishly in countless ways to this project and we are grateful for their participation. The BLM and the BNM (see below) use the same coding scheme and lemma spellings. This greatly facilitates GNT and LXX comparative studies. The computer form for the UBS Second Edition ([zavinac] 1968) was prepared by the TLG Project. The computer form for the UBS Third Edition ([zavinac] 1975) was derived from the MRT (machine readable text) created by Timothy and Barbara Friberg at the University of Minnesota, Academic Computing Services and Systems. Note that minor variations in versification exist between the Greek NT and the English Bibles. The ancient manuscripts contained no verse numbers or punctuation. In about 30 locations the first or last word or phrase or clause in the English Bibles is found as the last or first word or phrase or clause in the previous or following verse in the Greek NT. These variations are not automatically mapped when forming an index/concordance. Thus if you use an index of one language for another, for certain passages its location will be proximate, within one-half to one verse for the Greek NT. This is not true for the BHS (e.g. titles in Psalms) and not for the LXX (major variants and relocations of content), since BibleWorks provides standard and user-modifiable alignment mappings (see Online Help and see above discussion under the LXX): Long-range planning hopes to include a competent textual apparatus for the Greek NT in hypertext format.

14. GNM - Analytical Greek New Testament AGNT2 (GNM) Greek NT Grammatical Analysis Database, Version 2 Copyright [zavinac] 1994 Timothy and Barbara Friberg. All rights reserved. Version 2 is a major re-work of Version 1 AGNT. Version 2 AGNT is now in Versions 3.0 and higher of BibleWorkS^TM and includes the updated Grammatical Parsing Tags and new Lemmas, all Tagged to the UBS 4th Greek NT/Nestle-Aland 27th Edition and linked to the new ANLEX (see elsewhere in this section). These new Lemmas (root words/lexical forms) replace the lemmas graciously provided via CCAT for Version 1 and 2 of BibleWorks. Version 1 AGNT was based upon the MRT created by Barbara Friberg and Timothy Friberg at the University of Minnesota under public funding and used by permission from Dr. Timothy Friberg. The old and new parsing analysis is not merely morphological but also grammatical since it also considers and accounts for the syntax and discourse of the context of each word. The older printed version interlinear with the UBS 3rd Edition is titled The Analytical Greek New Testament, Copyright [zavinac] 1981 by Baker Book House.

16. BNM - BibleWorks Greek New Testament Morphology, 1999-2001. Scrivener in 1894, is substantially that of the Byzantine "Western text-type" Codex Bezae, critically edited by Theodore Beza in 1598. Historical note: Lobegott Friedrich Konstantin von Tischendorf (1815-1874) studied under J. G. B. Winer, the grammarian. During his lifetime, Tischendorf published more manuscripts and critical editions of the Greek New Testament than any other scholar. His most famous discovery was the Codex Sinaiticus at St. Catherine's Monastery in Sinai.

It is as competent as, and in some ways more detailed than, BAGD (Bauer-Arndt Gingrich-Danker Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament), covering all NT vocabulary (across all manuscript text-types), with Biblical citations, yet without the BAGD extra-biblical citations. 45. BKR (Czech) - Bible Kralická: Bible svatá aneb všechna písma Starého i Nového zákona podle posledního vydání Kralického z roku 1613. První český překlad z originálních jazyků kladoucí důraz na liturgické užití a vroucí zbožnost. NZ přeložil Jan Blahoslav 1564. Pro překlad SZ byla vytvořena zvláštní rada nejvzdělanějších odborníků, vzdělaných na předních evropských evangelických universitách, které tehdy Jednota bratrská měla. Jejich překlad vyšel v pěti dílech v letech 1579-1593 (6. dfl byl Blahoslavův překlad NZ). V r. 1613 vyšlo souhrnné vydání v jednom. Bratři vytvořili mistrné dílo, vrchol překladatelského úsilí slovanských národů. Bible Kralická měla navíc nemalý podíl na zachování českého jazyka v době pobělohorské a po staletí též tvořila most mezi Čechy a Slováky.

První společný, mezicírkevní biblický překlad v českých dějinách. Je plodem dlouholeté ekumenické spolupráce překladatelů (1961-1979). Starozákonní překladatelskou skupinu vedl prof. Miloš Bič, Novozákonní skupinu překladatelů prof. J. B. Souček (po jeho smrti, od r. Jindřich Mánek z Husovy bohoslovecké fakulty a od r. 1977 Petr Pokorný z Evangelické teologické fakulty). Tyto skupiny, od počátku koncipované jako ekumenické, zahmovaly zprvu vedle evangelických biblistů (Českobratrská církev evangelická, Církev bratrská, Evangelická církev metodistická) i biblisty z Církve československé husitské a

z Církve pravoslavné. Brzy se s pověřením svých biskupů připojili i biblisté z Církve římskokatolické.

47. KMS (Czech) - Nová smlouva, překlad KMS. Z řeckého originálu přeložili Antonín Zelina a Pavel Jartym; Křesťanská misijní společnost. Jde o studijní překlad do moderní češtiny s možným misijním použitím.

Hlavním cílem překladatelů bylo co nejpřesnější a nejvěrnější vyjádření smyslu a důrazů původního znění spolu se zachováním určitých slovních spojení a výrazů, které jsou charakteristické pro jazyk Nové smlouvy. Překladatelé rovněž usilovali o dodržení konkordantnosti u významných teologických pojmů, aby čtenář, jemuž jde o hlubší poznávání biblické zvěsti, mohl vykládat Písmo Písmem. 50. BUL - BULGARIAN BIBLE 1938. Bulgarian uses the Cyrillic alphabet, as do the Russian, Serbian, and Macedonian languages. The complete edition of the Bulgarian Bible in modern Bulgarian language was first published in 1871, then later revised several times. The Old Testament was translated from the Hebrew scripts and the New Testament from the Greek ones, with wonderful linguistic excellency and style, this translation contributed to establish unified literary Bulgarian language. The method of translation is plain formal equivalence. The predominant factor is verbal consistency and word-for-word correspondence. The first attempt to reproduce the Bulgarian Bible electronically (as a computer program) is made by Vanio Georgiev. He has used a public domain photo-type copy from the 1938 revised edition printed by United Bible Societies. Because of the poor quality of the copy it was impossible to scan by OCR. Thus, the text was typed manually

and adapted for the computer presentation. The only changes made were to avoid the old Cyrillic alphabet letters as inefficient in the modern Bulgarian language and absent in the standard computer fonts. The words are written according to the modern formal language and spelling. Even though, the old words are not exchanged with new ones. Precisely a few errata were corrected in the computer variant after they were identified when compared with other Bulgarian and foreign editions of the Bible. In spite of the incompatibility with the modern grammar, its punctuation, declinations and other grammatical features are identical to those of 1938 edition. The electronic text of the 1938 Bulgarian Bible is part of a freeware program "The Bible" by Vanio Georgiev. It is well accepted and effectively used by many members of the Bulgarian Evangelical world since the time it was published on the Internet.
